Welcome to Mission Beach

Mission Beach is one of the best keep secrets in Far North Queensland having over 14 kilometers of magnificent golden sandy beaches and the Family Islands group of 20 islands with the famous dunk and Bedarra islands and where the Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest meets the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef and that's a story in it's self as Mission Beach is where this all started with the great work of John Busst with the help of Judith Wright and Len Webb that started the ground work at protecting the Great Barrier Reef at the Queensland Heritage site ‘Ninney Rise’ in Bingil Bay in the 1960's that lead to creation of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in 1975 and the two World Heritage sites that we know today.

Mission Beach is home to the highly endangered Southern Cassowary and a place where you can see these great birds in the wild. At around 2 meters tall the cassowary is the 3rd biggest bird in the world and their colours will amaze you. They are the keystone of the oldest Rainforests in the world in far north Queensland and you would not discount that they walked with the dinosaurs in one way or a other. Feeding on the Rainforest plants of over 200 plants and some can only grow with the help of the cassowary.

There are many Rainforest walking tracks to explore in the area that range from 1.5 km to 7 km that are suitable for all ages. There's a great kids walking area where they can learn about the rainforest. These walks are a great way to see the local wildlife from the Cassowary to many of the birds and the butterfly's that are amazing to see all over the area.
